On Resolutions

January, the beginning of the new year... It always brings such hope. This will be the year - the year we finally do whatever it is we have pledged to do over and over. New Year's Resolutions are both positive and negative.

They are negative because we are most certainly our own worst critics and are far to hard on ourselves. This year, if something does not go the way you thought it should, use it as a learning experience. Remember, if you have been doing something over and over and over and it is not working and a change needs to be made.

Resolutions are positive because they offer us that boost to be better and push forward. The handout with this email is provided to help you make the best of your New Year's Resolutions, which you can start at any time of the year. We just need to remember to celebrate the journey as well. Each small win along the way deserves rewarding, and learning to reward yourself with something other than food is a win in itself! The bigger goal that was meant to take all year or more is obviously not going to happen in a month, which is why the journey and the small goals are the MOST important.

Make a TRUE commitment to each of the small steps/goals. This keeps you on track. There are many ways to do this. Shout it out on social media, give money to a friend saying you can do it, let everyone you see know your goals. Think of it this way, if you are afraid to tell anyone your small goal is to drink 2 more glasses of water each day, eat a serving of vegetables and protein at lunch, or get in an extra 500 steps each day, you are telling yourself you do not believe you can do it. These kind of small goals should be celebrated and each time you hit one you feel motivated because you start to realize you CAN do it!
